Vote NO on Amendment 3!

Tomorrow is Election Day! If you have not voted yet and are a registered voter in Georgia, UCR and the Georgia Water Coalition urge you to VOTE NO on Amendment #3 to the state constitution. This amendment would, in essence, let counties give developers the power to tax citizens for costs incurred in development - taxes that the counties will be required to collect. To learn how this amendment poses a threat to our citizens and water resources, click here.

Also, please VOTE YES on Amendment # 1 which will help preserve tracts of forest 200 acres or greater. Click here for more information.

Hemlock Fest This Weekend!

It’s fall again, and the hemlock trees need your help! Our north Georgia hemlocks are fighting for their lives due to the rampant spread of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, which can kill a tree in 3-5 years. The Lumpkin Coalition and UCR are working to protect these beautiful trees,
which are crucial to the health of North xxxxxThe Packaway Handle Band at Hemlock Fest '07

You can help and have fun too! This Friday-Sunday, November 7-9, join festival-goers at Starbridge near Dahlonega (just one hour north of Atlanta), a beautiful 40 acre camping venue with small lake for canoeing, fishing, etc. 100% of donations/proceeds from the festival will go toward advancing the hemlocks defense against the woolly adelgid. Enjoy a variety of music, family and children’s activities, arts and craft vendors, food and drink; there will also be a silent auction.
