Sales Tax Holiday on Energy Efficient Appliances This Weekend

From October 2-5, buy specific water efficient products and receive a sales tax exemption from both state and local sales and use taxes. The exemptions are limited to products with a purchase price of $1,500 or less that have been designated as meeting requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy “Energy Star” programs. FLOW Opening and Panel Discussion, Friday, October 3

FLOW, the award-winning documentary by Irena Salina about the world-wide water crisis, will open this Friday at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema in Atlanta. A panel discussion will follow Friday’s 7:25 p.m. screening, including Sally Bethea of UCR as well as representatives from Food & Water Watch and Clean Water Action.

First Annual Seafood Festival at Ray’s on the River this Saturday!

This Saturday, October 4, Ray’s Restaurants will hold its inaugural seafood festival at Ray’s on the River on the banks of the Chattahoochee from 11:30-3:30 p.m. Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is the nonprofit beneficiary of this event, which will feature great seafood, wine tasting and demonstrations from Ray’s Award Winning Chefs. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 on the day of the event, and free for kids under 10. Click here for more information.

In addition, Ray’s will donate a percentage of sales from every Seafood Platter ordered by diners throughout October to UCR!

October Paddle Trips with UCR

UCR is offering two paddle trips this fall, both in October: a Flatwater Paddle on Tugaloo Lake, Tallulah Falls on October 11, and a paddle and camping trip from McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County to mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Franklin, October 25-26.
