Wild and Scenic Film Festival
Next Week!

There’s only one week left until the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival comes to Atlanta, April 2-3, at the Regal Tara Cinema. Tickets available online ($10 per night) through April 1 - buy now here. Advance ticket purchasers will be entered into a prize-drawing for a jacket from presenting sponsor Patagonia.

Films will be shown from 7:00-9:00 pm each night, with the box office opening at 6:00 and doors at 6:30. Each night offers five to six films of varying lengths selected from the largest traveling film festival of its kind in North America. And while you’re enjoying the films, you can also enjoy complimentary SweetWater beer (for patrons 21+)!

Wednesday night highlights . . .
Ribbon of Sand – a poetic, cinematic profile of North Carolina’s Outerbanks
Ladies of the Land – the story of four women who never thought they’d be farmers, but are now dedicated to goats, grains, and green beans
Oil & Water – the energetic voyage of two kayakers traveling form Alaska to Argentina in a bio-fueled vehicle

Thursday night highlights . . .
Hybrid.Pedal – Road bikers on a thousand-mile ride from Portland, OR, to Salt Lake City, UT, drawing attention to endangered wildlands
Gimme Green – A witty and ironic examination of America’s lawn care obsession
Global Focus – Four tales of grassroots environmental heroes from around world whose passion brings hope to their communities.

These are just some of the great films you can see, and both programs conclude with special local features. The Wild and Scenic Film Festival On Tour is hosted by Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Georgia ForestWatch, and Georgia River Network. Proceeds go to support their work protecting Georgia’s environment.

Lights Out for Earth Hour, 3/29

Atlanta will “officially” turn out its non-essential lights on Saturday, March 29, from 8 pm – 9 pm (EST) as part of World Wildlife Fund's GLOBAL lights out event. Earth Hour was designed to show individuals that they can make a difference in conserving energy and helping protect our environment. So plan a romantic candlelight dinner and turn off those lights! Go to www.earthhour.org for details.

UCR’s Paddle Trips Begin in April

The first Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper paddle of the year will be on April 19, a flatwater paddle from Lanier’s Lula Bridge to Clarks Bridge, approximately 10 miles. For details on this and other UCR paddle trips click here.

New for 2008, UCR and the National Park Service’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) have partnered together to offer a River Discovery Series of paddling trips for summer. All together the five consecutive trips cover 37 miles of the river within the CRNRA, from Bowman’s Island to Paces Mill. For each segment, a National Park Service (NPS) guide will acquaint paddlers with the key features of that part of the river. Click here to learn more.
