Liquid Assets Forum, December 4
The city of Atlanta, UCR and other sponsors present a special preview and panel discussion of the film Liquid Assets: The Story of Our Water Infrastructure, on Thursday night, December 4, from 6 – 9 pm at the Loudermilk Center in Atlanta (click here for directions). This important new documentary tells of our essential infrastructure systems - drinking water, wastewater and stormwater – that are out of sight, too often out of mind, and in need of urgent attention.
We will view portions of the film, including the section on UCR’s 1995 lawsuit against the city and the resulting consent decrees under which the city agreed to overhaul its sewer infrastructure to reduce pollution in our rivers. The story of that action and the leadership shown by Mayor Franklin and her administration are featured in the film. But we face daunting challenges locally and nationally, and the panelists, including Sally Bethea, will discuss what must still be done and take questions from the audience, with Channel 11’s Marc Pickard moderating.
You must RSVP to attend the reception, which begins at 6 pm, by emailing vendordev@atlantaga.gov. Space is limited. The forum will begin at 7 pm. If you are unable to attend in person, you can view the event through a webcast here. The documentary will air in its entirety on PBA, Channel 30, on December 16 at 9:30 pm.
