22 days left to purchase tickets to the 15th Annual River Revival on May 19 at Park Tavern!

There are three weeks left to get your ticket to join us at the 15th Annual River Revival on May 19 at Park Tavern — a huge party with a purpose at a bargain price! This fundraiser for UCR will feature a triple-threat of rock 'n' roll from Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, Atlanta's own Ponderosa and Nashville's The Kicks.

The all-inclusive tickets are $45 advance and $55 at the door for this party, which will include the concert, food from Park Tavern, beer from SweetWater Brewery, a live and silent auction, and a one-year membership to UCR! We will also present our River Rock Star Award to filmmakers Rhett Turner and Jonathan Wickham for their documentary, Chattahoochee: From Water War to Water Vision.

The Revival will be held from 6:30 p.m.-11 p.m. underneath Park Tavern's big tent on the edge of Piedmont Park. This event serves as the kickoff for SweetWater's annual Save the Hooch campaign and for the first time ever, SweetWater will unveil a special Waterkeeper ale at the party!

Don't miss this fun evening of entertainment, food and fun to support UCR!

Inaugural ‘Sweep the Hooch’ garners tons of trash, recyclables'

UCR, Georgia Chapters of Trout Unlimited and the National Park Service collaborated on the first-ever Sweep the Hooch on April 16, with 360 volunteers working at 19 sites along the river in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. (And yes, as you see at right, we cleaned up everything including the kitchen sink!)
Despite a storm that rolled through metro Atlanta the evening before and canceled the paddling and wading work, volunteers removed 3.5 tons of trash along the river—more than 1500 pounds of which were later recycled with help from ReMix Recycling and GreenPlate.org. Additional event sponsors included REI, RBC Bank, Carter, Columbia Management, UBS Financial Services, Inc. and Republic Services.

UCR, federal partners post water quality data for paddlers and boaters

If you are one of the millions of people planning to visit the Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area this year, you may want to check online water quality data about the river’s health before heading out the door. For the past 11 years, UCR has partnered with the National Park Service and U.S. Geological Survey to monitor bacteria levels in the river park. Long-term trend data has shown that the river is safe for recreational contact most of the time; however, bacteria levels can reach high levels after rain events when the water is muddy, or turbid, in appearance.

Bacteria samples are analyzed weekly and the turbidity is monitored constantly in real-time. When the turbidity level in the river reaches a certain value, past data has shown that the bacteria levels may exceed the safe recreational level. When that happens, a National Park Service health advisory is posted on the USGS website. For more information on river health, contact UCR's technical programs director Jason Ulseth at 404-352-9828 or julseth@ucriverkeeper.org.
