2011 Georgia Legislative Session Begins

Georgia's 2011 legislative session began on January 11. This year, Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is working, along with members of the Georgia Water Coalition, to secure meaningful regulation of interbasin transfers (IBTs) through legislation. Here are some things you can do to stay informed during the session:

Creek Cleanup this Saturday, January 22

Come out this Saturday, January 22, from 1pm to 3pm, to clean up a tributary of Proctor Creek. Proctor Creek is one of the most environmentally impaired creeks in the metro Atlanta. This cleanup is located in West Atlanta close to Lindsey Street Baptist Church on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. Details will be emailed to those that rsvp.

Save the Date - Wild & Scenic Film Fest - March 6

Tickets go on sale January 28, 2011

The largest environmental film festival in North America is coming to Atlanta Sunday afternoon, March 6. Each year, Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR), Georgia River Network (GRN) and Georgia ForestWatch (GFW) partner to select the best of these award-winning environmental films and bring them to Atlanta in a three-hour program at the Tara Theater (235 Cheshire Bridge Rd., NE Atlanta, GA 30324). We will be presenting up to ten films of varying lengths, concluding with a local interest piece. CLICK HERE for details - program information will be posted soon!

Upper Coosa Riverkeeper Named One of 100 Most Influential Georgians!

Congratulations to Coosa River Basin Initiative (CRBI) Executive Director Joe Cook, named to Georgia Trend magazine's 100 most influential Georgians in its February 2011 edition. CLICK HERE to read a story about this recognition. Like UCR, CRBI is a licensed member of the international Waterkeeper Alliance. CRBI is a grassroots environmental organization based in Rome, Georgia, with the mission of informing and empowering citizens to protect, preserve and restore North America's most biologically diverse river basin, the Coosa.
