Harlan Trammell has served as Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s Boat Captian since 1995. For the last 13 years he has surveyed the river for problems and has been instrumental in discovering illegal discharges, fish kills and sewage spills that would normally go unnoticed. He is also responsible for safely taking thousands of students out on the Chota Princess II, our catamaran floating classroom which resides on Lake Lanier. In addition to driving the boats, Harlan also maintains UCR’s fleet, which includes the Chota Princess II, one pontoon boat, one jet boat and several canoes.
Harlan has an undergraduate degree in Geology from Georgia Southern University and has over 20 years experience in sport and commercial fishing. He owns property in the Florida Keys where he became a US Coast Guard licensed Merchant Marine Officer, allowing him to operate a 25 gross tons vessel; he has been approved for license renewal three times. Other accomplishments include being an FCC licensed marine radio operator, certified open water SCUBA diver and Honda Marine factory-certified outboard technician.
