Darcie Holcomb is the Headwaters Conservation Director for the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. Located in UCR’s satellite office in Gainesville, her attention is focused on protecting Lake Lanier and the 1040 square mile watershed above Buford Dam. Her responsibilities include community outreach and education, water quality monitoring and technical assistance. In addition, she manages UCR’s Hotline program for the headwaters region, works with local governments to develop and implement effective watershed management strategies, and monitors compliance with water quality regulations.
Darcie is an appointed citizen member of the Lake Lanier Governance Council, serves on Georgia’s Adopt-A-Stream Advisory Board and is currently Chairperson of the Upper Chattahoochee Basin Group. Recent projects include the Chattahoochee Headwaters Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation Project, Policy Recommendations for Nutrient Trading on Lake Lanier and a Bacteria Monitoring Project in cooperation with the Georgia Mountains RDC and EPA. She is currently working in partnership with the Soque River Watershed Association to conduct a Watershed Assessment of the Soque River Watershed and with Hall County to implement a stream restoration and education project.
Prior to joining the UCR in 2001, Darcie received her MBA degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and spent ten years working for the Tennessee Valley Authority as an Economist, an Environmental Education Specialist and then a Watershed Protection Specialist.
